This book is excellent. The only reason to give it a less than perfect rating is if you do not realize what it is. The chapters are really essays. Each essay was given as a talk in a conference at the John Owen Centre for Theological Study in 2000. With that being said, there is a certain amount of it being understood that the audience has a decent knowledge of Owen. For that reason, this should not be read as a biography but rather as a tool for deeper study. Owen's theology is discussed: His issues with Anglicanism, Puritans, and Quakers are also mentioned. It is a great asset for anyone interested in deeper Owen study.

Was helpful in my study of John Owen's life and his literary contribution of Puritan Theology. Probably not a one stop reference, but definitely one that sums things up well and is a good jump-off point.

For those who know little of Owen, this collection of lectures is a good place to begin learning more. It will challenge you to read the writings of Owen himself. The book addresses his life history, as well as his theology, and demonstrates how Owen put his theology into practice.Arguably Owen is the best orthodox theologian England has ever produced. Arrived on time. Good short summary of some of Owens Theology

All in all this was a very good book on the puritan pastor-theologian John Owen. The chapters were adapted from papers that were presented on Owen in London. Each of the authors is fluent in the aspect of Owen's life that they are writing about and the different perspectives give the book a fresh feel.The reason I gave it only four stars is that it is probably suitable as an introduction to Owen and not a full treatment like Marsden's work on Jonathan Edwards. With that said, it is a great resource that touches on many different facets of Owen's life.
